Joanne Hanssens
Veterinarian
Jo started her career as a part-time veterinary nurse at Yamanto Veterinary Surgery whilst still in high school and during her university years (2000-2007). Once a graduated veterinarian she then worked full time in Goondiwindi (Dec 2007- Jan 2011) and then worked as a locum for 13 months where she has gained much experience in various practices including Guyra, Tenterfield, Pittsworth, Dayboro, Kilcoy, Dalby, Mt Isa and Roma. Jo joined the Maranoa Veterinary Surgery in Feb 2012 and enjoys almost all aspects of veterinary science but mostly cattle work and soft tissue & gastro-intestinal surgery in small animals. Jo has many pets that she adores and are known to most people as her "fur-kids". Banjo and Dixie the dogs, Alex, Ellie and Gracie her cats, Vegas and Shelly the clinic cats, her 6 goats, and 3 cows are well known to many of our clients and some will often be around the practice to greet you. Jo became practice director in Dec 2012.

Candice Cottrell
Veterinarian
Candice lived in rural Queensland until the age of eight, cemeting her love for country life, before moving to Brisbane. Graduating from the University of Queensland in 2007 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science she began her first veterinary job in Longreach. After two and a half years of mixed practice, it was time to move on and Candice did some locum work in Goondiwindi, Roma and Chinchilla, followed by some overseas holidaying. She started in Chinchilla in 2011 and worked there for another two and a half years in mixed practice. From there she resumed locum work for 18months in Roma, Mackay, Kilcoy, then into New South Wales in Dubbo and Holbrook. Whilst in Dubbo she found that she enjoyed the clinic and the workload and decided to move there, and started fulltime in Decemebr 2015. Candice remained in Dubbo until June 2019 where she felt a move back to Queensland was required, settling on Roma and the Maranoa Veterinary Surgery. In practice Candice enjoys bovine medicine and small animal medicine and surgery. In August you will find her in Brisbane stewarding at the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) in the Stud Beef and Young Judges sections (or in the Stockman's). Around town, keep an eye out for her and her one-eyed Maremma "Ted"

Growing up on the farm allowed Emily to have a variety of pets such as horses, dogs, cats, pigs, birds and orphaned livestock. Emily enjoys working with animals and looks forward to it whilst completing her studies as veterinary nurse. She joined our team in May 2019.

Jess Maunder
Kennel Hand
Jess comes from Wallumbilla where she was raised on a property that produces both cattle and crops. She completed a week school based work experience with the Maranoa Veterinary Surgery team in September 2018 and gained after school employment with us shortly after that. She is currently attending High School at Roma State College. Whilst she is uncertain about her future career aspirations in years to come, she knows she loves working with animals and is always keen to learn something new.
